Judge Abdulla's unconstitutional detention case to PG

Police media official said that the case had been handed over to the PG’s office after taking the statements from all the relevant parties. Despite intense pressure from various parties, the former government had detained Judge Abdulla in Kaafu Atoll Girifushi which is a military training facility, in violation of constitutional laws for 22 days. Police had earlier requested a statement from former President Mohamed Nasheed in relation to the matter, but had later decided to move forward with the investigation without Nasheed’s statement after he had refused to give one. When former Home Minister Hassan Afeef had been questioned in relation to the matter, he revealed that he had asked the Maldives National Defence force (MNDF) to take action against Judge Abdulla upon receiving a request from the Police citing that the Judge was a threat to national security. Human Rights Commission of Maldives (HRCM) is also investigating the detention of the Criminal Court’s Judge and had revealed that the findings of the probe would be announced soon.
