Chinese Ambassador to Maldives H.E Wang Fukang have said that 100 million Chinese travelled as tourists last year and the number of tourists to Maldives can be increased.
Speaking to senior figures of Maldivian media this morning, the ambassador said that 700,000 Chinese tourists travelled to Bali, Indonesia alone. “ Maldives is much better than Bali in so many ways. Bali is just one island. So, the number of people who wants to visit Maldives can be increased. Maybe the problem lies in marketing and pricing and advertising “ said the Ambassador.
He said that Maldives is the most popular destination in China, but the problem is that Maldives is pricy. He further said that there are direct flights between Maldives and China by Mega Maldives and China Airlines. He said that however since China Airlines does not have scheduled flights, there are some challenges. “ If Maldives can be marketed in Beijing, it will many years for all those who want to visit Maldives to visit here” said the ambassador.
“ 500,000 tourists visited Japan last year. 960,000 tourists visited South Korea last year. So, it will not be difficult to get 1.5 million tourists to Maldives from China alone” said the ambassador.
Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer have said before that there will be special programs to promote Maldives in China this year. So, it is likely that number of tourists to Maldives from China will increase this year.
