The foreign lawyers team of former president Mohamed Nasheed – Amal Clooney and Jared Genser – have updated the foreign diplomats in Sri Lanka on the latest developments of Nasheed’s 13 year prison sentence case.
Amal arrived in Maldives on Monday، while Jared arrived in Maldives on Wednesday، and the two int’l lawyers have met with former president Mohamed Nasheed، and departed on Thursday night.
Amal and Jared، along with nasheed’s lawyer Hassan Latheef have met with Atul Keshap، the U.S. Ambassador to Maldives and Sri Lanka، Sri Lanka Prime Minister Ranil Wickremasingha، and other diplomats from European countries، and updated them on the case.
In a press conference، Amal and Jared have alleged that the prison cell of Nasheed ‘has been bugged’ and that ‘some are eavesdropping on the conversations’.
Refuting the allegations، Maldives Correctional Service (MCS) has said on the statement that the authority will probe the case.
