The detained organizers of the yesterday’s mass protest، Adhaalath leader Sheikh Imran Abdulla، Maldivian Democratic Party Chairperson Ali Waheed and Jumhooree Party deputy leader Amin Ibrahim، have been brought to court with handcuffs on.
The three opposition leaders، who initiated Friday’s mass protest “Mayday”، have been remanded 15 days in police detention، when brought to the court.
The Criminal Court has on Saturday night remanded Adhaalath Party leader Sheikh Imran Abdulla، MDP Chairperson Ali Waheed and JP Deputy leader Ameen Ibrahim in police detention following their arrest on Friday night، due to the Friday’s mass protest changing into a violent confrontations between Police and Protesters.
The presiding judge remanded Sheikh Imran، on the allegations that he provoked the unrest yesterday and that he might provoke any violence again.
The police had previously warned that if any unrest occurs during the protest، the leaders of the protest will be held responsible for all the acts، and will be arrested.
The Friday’s mass protest changed into violent confrontations between the security forces and the protesters in the evening، until 2 a.m.
