Hassan Zareer who the parliament cleared to assume the position of Commissioner General of Taxation has resigned from his current position of Chairperson of Bank of Maldives (BML).
BML stated that they are thankful for the valuable consultation and firm leadership shown by Zareer during his time with the bank.
Zareer was appointed to the position of Chairperson on March 25, 2024.
Regulations for operating the bank stipulate that the board of directors must consist of eight members appointed by the government and three shareholders nominated to represent the general shareholders, making a total of 11 board members.
BML said that however, only nine directors remain on the board due to the vacant position left by two government-appointed members. The Bank aims to host their annual general meeting to elect the board members for vacant director seats this July.
