Mayor of Kulhudhuffushi City, Mohamed Athif, stated last night that projects such as the Boziyaaraiy Beach developed by the Kulhudhuffushi City Council will bring significant social and economic benefits to the city.
Speaking at the official opening ceremony of the Boziyaaraiy area developed in Kulhudhuffushi City, Athif remarked that such locations within the city represent a form of intangible heritage for the community.
Highlighting that the City Council has undertaken numerous efforts during this term to strengthen social ties and provide spaces for families to spend time together, Athif noted that the Boziyaaraiy development project has established an environment where residents and families can foster relationships, spend quality time, and find mental refreshment from the exhaustion of work.
“In the past, people used various areas of the island for swimming. At that time, there were no reclaimed lands or large rock revetments; instead, there were swimming spots on the western side such as the Haajee Magu channel, Aimina Magu, Aa Magu, and Magaan Magu. Later, a pleasant environment called ‘Aaraamu Bageecha’ was developed. The people of Kulhudhuffushi have always worked towards the well-being and upbringing of their children and the community,” Athif said.
Athif expressed his satisfaction that the City Council, using its own budget and incorporating public feedback, has once again succeeded in establishing such a destination or environment in Kulhudhuffushi City.
“These kinds of initiatives are projects that will bring numerous benefits, not just socially but economically as well. Such projects will contribute to the island’s economy both directly and indirectly,” Athif stated.
As an example, he pointed to the viewing platform developed by the City Council at the city’s ‘Mashi Kulhi’ (mud wetland). Athif noted that people from nearby islands, neighboring atolls, and even the Male’ area visit to enjoy the beauty of that location.
According to Athif, such projects will increase profitability for the island’s economy. The Mayor pointed out that when people visit the city to see and enjoy such places, it creates a pathway for money to enter the local economy. Consequently, he noted that local businesses would also experience a positive impact.
Athif further highlighted that the City Council awarded these projects directly to local businesses within the city, which he identified as a crucial step in ensuring that wealth remains within the city’s economy.
