MIFCO partners with CMEC to expand cold storage and fish exports

The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has signed three Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) to strengthen fisheries infrastructure and export capacity.
The MoUs were signed at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Agriculture and Animal Welfare. They aim to increase cold storage and export capacity by establishing a cold storage and blast freezing facility in Hirilandhoo, Thaa Atoll, and expanding fish procurement and storage in Thinadhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.
The agreements also include the expansion of Addu Fisheries Complex’s capacity to procure and store fish, as well as the establishment of a fish processing and export factory.
According to the ministry, MIFCO’s partnership with one of China’s largest companies will support sustainable fisheries development and increase value-added fish exports.
