Fenaka transfers the utility services of three atolls to STELCO

An agreement was signed to hand over the utility services that Fenaka Corporation had been providing Baa Atoll, Lhaviyani Atoll and Meemu Atoll to State Electric Company Limited (STELCO).
The agreement was signed on behalf of Fenaka by Deputy Managing Director Adam Thaufeeq, and on behalf of STELCO by Deputy Managing Director Dr Ali Azwar.
Speaking to PSM News after the signing, Adam Thaufeeq stated that ensuring uninterrupted delivery of essential services to the public is a key priority of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu. He added that with the transfer of these services to STELCO, electricity, water, and sewerage services previously provided by Fenaka will continue without disruption under STELCO’s management.
“Through this agreement with STELCO, arrangements have been made for the essential utility services currently provided by Fenaka from Baa to Meemu Atoll to be handed over to STELCO within 30 days. With this change, services to the public will continue without interruption. We believe this transition will strengthen Fenaka’s operations and also bring significant improvements to STELCO,” said Adam Thaufeeq.
In a separate interview with PSM News, STELCO’s Deputy Managing Director Dr Ali Azwar said that once STELCO begins providing services to the islands in these three atolls, the services will be further developed and expanded.
Fenaka stated that the transfer of electricity, water, and sewerage services in these three atolls was carried out under the government’s policy direction to ensure the best possible delivery of essential services to the public.
Under this agreement, STELCO will take over utility services in 25 islands across Baa, Lhaviyani, and Meemu Atolls. With this change, the number of islands served by STELCO; including Greater Malé, Baa, Lhaviyani, Kaafu, Alif Alif, Alif Dhaal, Vaavu, and Meemu Atolls, will increase to 61.
Fenaka noted that this transfer is part of broader government reforms. Both Fenaka and STELCO expressed confidence that the change will enhance service quality, ensure uninterrupted supply of electricity, water, and sewerage services, and strengthen overall operations.
