The lorry driver arrested following an accident in K. Thilafushi which resulted in serious injuries to an expatriate has been released on Friday night.
A 53-year-old Sri Lankan expatriate was seriously injured in the accident which took place at approximately 14:15pm on Thursday afternoon. According to the Police, the Sri Lankan was waiting near a Highmark when he was struck by a lorry, causing him to fall and be run over by the vehicle.
The lorry driver arrested in the case has been identified as a 28-year-old Indian man, Vignesh Annadhurai.
Vignesh is suspected of fleeing the scene of the accident without rendering assistance to the injured individual.
However, Vignesh has been released by the court due to the Police’s failure to submit corroborating evidence in the case. As such, Vignesh was released by the court without any conditions.
The Sri Lankan injured in the accident has been shifted to IGMH’s ward, where he is still receiving treatment. The hospital did not disclose the extent of the injuries sustained by the man.
The case is under further investigation by the Police.
