Former President Mohamed Nasheed has been given a warm welcome upon his arrival in AA. Ukulhas.
A large number of island residents waited at the harbor to greet Nasheed as he arrived on Monday afternoon.
Upon their arrival, Nasheed and wife Laila Ali were presented with flower bouquets by local children.
Men and women of all ages also waited to greet him at the harbor, which was decorated with flags of yellow, the color of his party Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP).
Nasheed also met with the island council and saw a live performance by Ukulhas’ traditional music band “Rah Gudaa”.
After the performance, Nasheed gave a speech to his supporters, in which he said president-elect Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and his new government will focus particularly on the island’s development.
He also said that the last MDP congress was held in Ukulhas because of the island’s uniqueness.
A special event has been planned for Nasheed in Ukulhas later on Monday night and he is set to open a guesthouse in the island the next day.
