Speaker of Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed has sustained injuries in an explosion near his residence in Male’ City.
The explosion took place at approximately 2100hrs in Neeloafaru Magu, Male’. It is reported that the explosion took place while Speaker Nasheed was getting into his car. Four people were reportedly injured in the incident.
Following the explosion, the Speaker was immediately taken to ADK Hospital for treatment. An official statement has not yet been released regarding his condition. However, doctors at ADK Hospital have indicated that the Speaker is in stable condition.
Meanwhile, Maldives Police Service (MPS) has stated police are currently active on the scene of the explosion . MPS has urged the public to refrain from going to that area for the time being.
