Remand extended on two suspects involved in Rilwan’s case
The remand of the two people arrested under a court order in the case of the missing journalist from Minivan News, Ahmed Rilwan Abdulla has been extended. Sources say that their remand was extended by ten days at the Criminal Court yesterday. One of the suspects in the owner of the red car that Rilwan is believed to have been kidnapped and carried away on – Ahmed Aleef Rauf from H. Hilton, and Mohamed Nooraddin from Karankaage in G. Dh. Vaadhoo – who is believed to have driven the care in Hulhumale’ – where Rilwan lived. Rilwan was kidnapped almost two years ago on 8 August 2014. Speaking in a press conference on 2 April, Superintendent of Police, Abdulla Shatheeh said that witnesses had confessed to hearing the sound of screams coming from where the car was when Rilwan was kidnapped – three times, and to seeing a hand waving out of the left door of the car. Shatheeh had said that Rilwan’s kidnapping had been preplanned. And that Rilwan’s every movemend had been shadowed, led by Mohamed Suaid from Athiree Aage in S. Hulhudhoo. He said that both Aleef and Suad belonged to Kuda Henveriru Gang. Superintendent Abdulla Shatheeh said that in their search to see where Rilwan’s phone lost signal, it was discovered that the phone itself was not switched off. And the investigation so far has not reveal exactly what happened to Rilwan and the investigation is ongoing.
