Nasheed seeks intervention in Hulhumale Court legitimacy case
Nasheed is facing charges over the unconstitutional arrest and subsequent detention of Chief Criminal Judge Abdulla Mohamed at the Hulhumale Court. The ex-President’s legal team had raised a procedural point over the legitimacy of the Hulhumale Court at the High Court. However, the Supreme Court had asked the High Court to hold off on the case until the highest court decides over the matter. Supreme Court has confirmed the request made by Nasheed to intervene in the Hulhumale Court legitimacy case. However, the Supreme Court is yet to respond to the ex-President’s request, court said. The first hearing of the case has been scheduled at the Supreme Court at 2:00pm today. The case is being tried at the Supreme Court upon request from the Judicial Services Commission (JSC) to take over the case at the lower court. Hence the Supreme Court ordered the Civil Court to forward the documents and files of the case filed with the lower court over the legitimacy of the Hulhumale Magistrate Court.
