HRCM forwards Judge Abdulla's case to PG
Haveeru has learned the HRCM had not pressed for any charges against a particular individual in its report. HRCM President Mariyam Azra detailed that the report forwarded to the PG office had been based on a human rights perspective. “The whole case has been assessed from a human rights viewpoint. The report has made highlights in the same regard,” Azra added. The case of Judge Abdulla had been probed by the HRCM upon request by the PG office. An official from the PG office revealed that the report had been received some time yesterday afternoon. Official added that HRCM today had been requested to forward the statements and evidence compiled in the case. Official detailed that a decision pertaining to pressing any charges would be made after the evidence collected by HRCM in its investigation and relevant statements from the Police are received. Former President Nasheed had given a statement to the HRCM in relation to the case but had refused a similar request by the Police for the investigation. Following which, the Police had decided to move forward with their investigation without the statement of Nasheed. HRCM had also summoned former Home Minister Hassan Afeef and former Defence Minister Tholhath Ibrahim Kaleyfaanu during its probe of Judge Abdulla’s case.
