Nasheed requests court not to take Shiyam’s testimony

The former President and Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) leader Mohamed Nasheed had requested in court to proceed the trial without taking the testimony of Chief of Defence Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam.
Former President Nasheed is being tried for terrorism charges accused of unlawfully detaining criminal court chief Judge Abdulla Ghazy in 2012،
Upon the State presenting the Chief of Defence Force Major General Ahmed Shiyam to testify against Nasheed in the court hearing held tonight، Nasheed asked the court to proceed without Shiyam.
“Please continue this without Shiyam. He is the Chief of Defence Force.”
In addition، Nasheed attempted to speak with regards to Ahmed Shiyam، however، was interrupted by the presiding judge who stated only to raise questions – Nasheed stated ‘no questions’.
