MVR 100 million spend for Waste Management Projects this year” says Minister of Finance and Treasury Mr. Abdullah Jihaadh. He said this while speaking at the signing ceremony of the “Saafu Raajje Statement” held on occasion of National 3R Day. He also said that most of the money was spent on the Waste Management projects of Male’ since it has a high population and produces more waste than the other islands of Maldives. He also highlighted that managing waste would also benefit the nation economically.
Also, while speaking at the ceremony , President of Local Government Authority (LGA), Mr. Umar Naseer said that it is an honour that all the atoll councils have signed the cooperative agreement. And also highlighting on the importance of waste management, he said that different types of diseases are being spread because of waste and it is highly important to tackle this major issue. He said that under this agreement, all the islands should be able to adopt a policy to manage waste in the regional level.
The 3R Day forum is being held by Ministry of Environment and Energy in cooperation with the government of Japan and United Nations Centre for Regional Development (UNCRD).
