In a telephone conversation Thursday afternoon، Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon has briefed The Rt. Hon. Hugo Swire، Minister of State at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office of UK on the recent political developments in the Maldives، says Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
According to a press release by the Ministry، during the telephone conversation، Foreign Minister noted that there were no political prisoners in Maldives.
Huge Swire was briefed regarding the case of Former President Nasheed – Minister Dunya noted that the Government has encouraged President Nasheed to appeal..
Dunya further gave an update on the transfer of former President Nasheed to house arrest for two months for medical purposes and noted that the Government welcomed the decision by MDP to accept the invitation from the Government and participate in the political dialogue process.
Minister Dunya also informed Minister Swire regarding President Yameen’s invitation to the UN to send a team of experts to the Maldives.
In addition، Minister Dunya briefed Hon. Swire regarding the Government plans towards democracy consolidation in the Maldives noting her wish for continued constructive engagement with the UK Government as well as the Commonwealth.
Foreign Minister Dunya Maumoon had met with Rt. Hon. Hugo Swire during her visit to UK in March، and briefed him on the political developments in the Maldives then.
