President Yameen will not be questioned on the MMPRC case: ACC

President of Anti- Corruption Commission Hassan Luthufee announced that the Commission had not yet questioned President Abdulla Yameen in the investigation into the Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC) misappropriation case.
The Commission said that they will question all those individuals that need to be question, even the President if the need arises.
President Yameen had ordered a full and independent investigation into the MMPRC case.
ACC President Hassan Luthfee said that the MMPRC case would not be completed with just a media release, but one that required the interviews of hundreds, reviews of financial statements and cases of asset recovery.
“This report cannot be compiled overnight; this is a huge investigation. We have to review the media reports and allegations made. The allegations made in the Parliament also needs to be investigated,” he said.
Luthfee noted that in the 2014 audit report released on MMPRC, the lease of islands was not addressed. The only issue addressed in the report was the loan of MVR 77 million.
ACC Vice President said that when the MMPRC case was filed, they had frozen several bank accounts with the assistance Police, adding that some accounts are still frozen.
ACC had conducted interviews with 95 individuals and reviewed information from 338 bank accounts in connection to the lease of 19 lagoons and 49 islands. The Commission is also working on asset recovery especially funds in foreign bank accounts.
