Bank of Maldives (BML) on Thursday has announced the islands for its Fehi Project launched in June 2022.
The Fehi Project was introduced as part of BML’s 40th Anniversary monthly initiatives. The 5-year project aims to provide 50,000 trees to reforest and rejuvenate island land spaces to 5 islands each year.
The 5 islands which have been selected for the year 2022 are:
BML said through the project, the bank will provide 10,000 plants, sourced from local nurseries to each winning island.
“This project will help to accelerate the much-needed establishment of healthy vegetation on the islands while simultaneously creating positive social impact for communities,” BML said.
The bank further noted reforestation will also provide the added benefits of preventing soil erosion, reducing temperatures, offsetting carbon emissions and ultimately providing a healthier climate.
The BML Fehi Project was open in June 2022 exclusively for Island and City Councils.
