Maldives signs agreement with OPEC Fund

The Maldives has signed a new Country Partnership Framework with the OPEC Fund that focuses on climate resilience and sustainable development.
The agreement was signed by the Minister of Finance and Planning Moosa Zameer during his ongoing visit to OPEC Fund’s headquarters in Vienna, Austria.
The Minister said the framework sharpens the joint focus on climate resilience, sustainable infrastructure, renewable energy and fiscal stability, while deepening cooperation to support the Maldives’ long-term development priorities.
"As a developing small island nation, we face impacts of climate change and various external challenges. Partnerships such as this are vital for securing long-term concessional loans for critical projects such as harbours, transport, water and sanitation as well as renewable energy,” the Minister further said.
Highlighting the historic ties between the Maldives and the OPEC Fund, the Minister said OPEC has supported the Maldives since 1977, providing assistance across key sectors including water and sanitation, transport, fisheries, health and education.
