Police have decided to dismiss the police officer arrested with drugs by the Joint Intelligence And Investigation Taskforce on July 19 in Male’ city.
The policewoman arrested that day following a tip-off received by police intelligence is Aishath Shiyaza, 31, of Dilbahaaruge, A.Dh. Kunburudhoo.
The police disciplinary board has decided to dismiss her after investigating the case.
Police added that Saifullah Ahmed, 26, of Hazaarumaage, H.A.Dhidhoo, was arrested in connection with the case.
Police said three plastic packets containing suspected drugs and an illegal pill were recovered from the suspects.
Aishath Shiyaza was remanded in custody for five days and Saifullah Ahmed for 10 days, police said.
Drug abuse is one of the biggest social problems in Maldives, with 1,673 drug-related cases reported last year. So far this year, 1,010 cases have been reported.
