President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced a 10 percent discount on the total price of land allocated in Hulhumale' Phase I under the points scheme.
Speaking to residents of Hulhumale' Phase I, the President said the land plots, granted on an ownership basis upon full payment, have never previously received any form of financial relief from the government.
“The government intends to give a discount of 10 percent on the total price of the agreement to those who have received land under the points scheme,” he said, adding that the discount will be deducted from the outstanding amount required to privatize the land.
The President noted that housing remains one of the biggest social challenges in the Male' region, where the majority of the country’s population lives and many households continue to rely on rented accommodation with high monthly costs.

To address the issue, the government has launched its Housing for All policy, which includes the allocation of 15,000 plots and the development of 7,000 housing units in its initial phase.
The government has also begun reducing rents for some previously vacated flats. For Gedhoruveriyaa flats developed under the Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC), any reduction in the required deposit will be deducted from the rent if the deposit has already been paid.
Additionally, penalties for non‑payment of rent have been waived for shelter flats developed in Hulhumale' Phase II by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC).
