President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has assured that all government agencies would work together to meet the needs of Male' City residents and resolve the challenges they face.
The President made the statement while addressing the residents of Macchangolhi Ward in Male' City at a meeting held Tuesday night, to discuss their concerns and engage in constructive dialogue on the government’s continued commitment to enhancing public services and advancing development in the district.
During the meeting, the President highlighted key issues affecting Male' residents, including housing shortages, road infrastructure constraints and congestion. He reiterated the government's commitment to finding permanent solutions to these issues. On housing, he said that several projects are underway, adding that easing congestion and upgrading city roads to modern standards remain key priorities.
The President also revealed the government's plans to develop a park, with additional parking facilities, on the site of the former Arabiyya School building. Noting that the Arabiyya School structure is unsafe for use, the President said that efforts to demolish the building and clear the land are underway. Once the land is cleared, the government intends to build a children's park on the 11,000-square-foot land featuring green spaces and a dedicated area for parking, he said. However, he invited Macchangolhi residents to share their ideas and views on how the land can be best utilised for the greatest benefit to the ward.
"We are thinking of using the land for two key purposes. Our idea is to develop a large parking area combined with green space and a community park. I would like to hear your opinion on this," the President said.
The President has been travelling across the country to meet with local communities and discuss development needs. He is currently holding meetings with Male' residents, having already met with Villimale' residents earlier this week.
