CAM: 3G service must be provided to all inhabited islands next year

The regulating body for the telecommunications and postal sector, Communications Authority of Maldives (CAM) has said that under its new Broadband Policy, 3G service must be provided to all inhabited islands in the Maldives next year.
Chief Executive Officer of CAM Ilyas Ahmed told Sun Online that the new Broadband Policy requires the provision of 3G service to all inhabited islands – something that was optional for companies until now.
He further said that telecommunications operators have been notified to ensure that network coverage reaches all inhabited islands and travel routes, and that they are informed and requested to take action when complaints are received in this regard.
Ilyas further said that CAM conducts an annual survey, and the issues identified in the survey are communicated to operators.
Presently, people in many inhabited islands have difficulty obtaining 3G service.
