UN will assist in all-party talks: Dr. Shainee

Fisheries Minister Dr. Mohamed Shainee has said that he was assured that the UN and other partner nations will assist in carrying out the all-party talks.
Speaking to Miadhu, Dr. Shainee, who is also the senior government representatives at the talks, said that even foreign parties wished to see a peaceful resolution to the issues at hand, by discussions. As such, he said that he was assured that international partners will assist in carrying out the talks.
He said that the Government had invited UN to act an independent observer to allay the fears of the opposition that the talks would not be an impartial one. He added that the UN was therefore, was the most apt partner for this endeavor.
UN Assistant Secretary General, during his visit to the Maldives, had stressed that discussions with the opposition were vital.
The all-party talks had stalled as opposition MDP and Adhaalath Party had refused to take part.
