The People’s Majlis Committee on the Oversight of the Government has passed to approve Major General Rtd. Moosa Ali Jaleel as the Minister of Defence and National Security.
The chair of the Committee، MP for Vilufushi Riyaz Rasheed had confirmed over a tweet today، that the Committee had passed to approve Jaleel as the Defence Minister.
The committee passed Moosa Ali Jaleel’s name during the committee meeting held on Friday night.
The Ex-Chief of the Army، Major General (Retired) Moosa Ali Jaleel was appointed Defence Minister on 20 January 2015، following the dismissal of the former Defence Minister Colonel Rtd. Mohamed Nazim from the post.
President Yameen sent the name of Jaleel for the parliament’s approval during the Second Sitting of the First Session the People’s Majlis this year.
Moosa Ali Jaleel was previously the Maldivian Ambassador to Pakistan. He is also facing terrorism charges pressed by the State for the detention of Criminal Court Chief Judge Abdulla ‘Gaazee’ Mohamed in 2012. Jaleel was the then Chief of Defence Force.
