Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) has signed an agreement with a Sri Lankan party to acquire five vessels to monitor the sea area.
Speaking after the defense agreement, Minister Shareef said that this agreement was a MVR 129 million agreement and that the vessels will be equipped with arms and are high speed vessels.
Minister Shareef said that the vessels will arrive by the end of this month and once amalgamated into the force, the Coast Guard will have the capability to monitor the seas of the country. The Coast Guard will then have the ability to resolve the various issues that occur on the sea.
Minister Shareef further said that this will improve the capabilities of the armed forces.
