All domestic flight operations of Maldives have come to a complete halt following total lockdown in Greater Male’ Region.
The national airline; Maldivian announced it has temporarily halted all of its domestic flight operations following the lockdown until further notice from Health Protection Agency (HPA).
Maldivian confirmed it will resume its domestic operations once the lockdown exercised in Male’ Region is lifted.
Meanwhile, Manta Air has announced its charter flight operations will remain idle during the lockdown period.
Prior to lockdown, Maldivian was the only airline operating domestically with scheduled flights. Both FlyMe and Manta Air announced temporarily ceasing their scheduled operations, however Manta Air had continued with charter flights for specific arrangements.
Greater Male’ Region came under a total lockdown on Wednesday, 15 April 2020, approved and ordered by Director of Public Health Maimoona Aboobakur..
On Wednesday, the first positive case of COVID-19 was discovered from mainland Male’ area which invoked the lockdown.
General and public transportation have been banned during the lockdown period.
