In a significant step toward strengthening governance and transparency nationwide, the Maldives National University (MNU) and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) have signed a strategic cooperation agreement aimed at preventing corruption and fostering a culture of integrity within public institutions.
The agreement was formalised during a ceremony held at the MNU campus. President of the ACC, Adam Shamil, signed on behalf of the Commission, while Vice Chancellor Dr Aishath Shehenaz Adam signed for MNU, marking a milestone in institutional collaboration for ethical governance.
The partnership reflects a shared commitment to leveraging education, research, and public engagement as central pillars in the national effort to combat corruption.
Under the agreement, the two institutions will undertake joint initiatives to enhance transparency and accountability. The ACC will provide technical expertise in organising seminars and workshops to promote integrity among MNU staff and students. In parallel, MNU will design and deliver anti-corruption awareness programmes tailored for government agencies and civil society organisations.
A key component of the collaboration includes the development of academic courses focused on ethical leadership and public administration, embedding anti-corruption principles within the university’s curriculum. The partnership further extends to policy development, with MNU working alongside the ACC to formulate national strategies and anti-corruption frameworks grounded in evidence-based research and expert consultation.
MNU has also committed to conducting specialised research and publishing scholarly journals on governance, integrity, and anti-corruption practices. These academic contributions are expected to inform policymaking and enrich national discourse on transparency.
The ACC stated that the training programmes and research initiatives emerging from this alliance will serve as critical instruments in cultivating a more accountable and principled society. By combining the Commission’s regulatory and investigative expertise with the university’s academic capacity, the collaboration aims to establish a sustainable framework for ethical development in the Maldives.
