The Hankede Bridge in Addu, constructed with loan aid from India, has been opened to the public from midnight last night.
The Addu City Council brought some changes to traffic flow on connecting roads before opening the bridge to the public.
Traffic flow changes
- Hiyaa Fannu Magu, Vaifahi Magu and Jamaalee Goalhi in Maradhoo are now one-way streets
- Road closure where the Hankede causeway from the Link Road joins Maradhoo
- Orchid Magu in Feydhoo, Orchid Magu in Maradhoo, and Lily Magu in Maradhoo Feydhoo will allow parking on one side of the street temporarily
- Permanent ban on parking on Orchid Magu in Feydhoo, Orchid Magu in Maradhoo, and Lily Magu in Maradhoo Feydhoo after 1am
The project, initiated in 2021 under the Indian Exim Bank's line of credit, includes flood protection and road development across all islands in Addu City. Awarded at a cost of USD 77.6 million (MVR 1.1 billion), it was scheduled for completion within two years.
