Young Addu City Council staff dies following cesarean

A young woman who underwent an emergency cesarean (C-section) at Addu City’s International Medical and Diagnostic Centre (IMDC) has died after her condition deteriorated following the surgery.
The deceased has been identified as Aishath Nazahath Ahmed Didi, 28, Thamannaa, S. Hithadhoo. She is employed at Addu City Council’s Project Development Unit as an Associate Council Officer.
According to reliable sources, Nazahath visited IMDC for a consultation on her due date. The clinic initiated an emergency C-section because she had a fever and was vomiting.
Her condition worsened following the surgery, prompting IMDC to transfer her to Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) urgently. However, sources say she had already been dead by the time she was taken AEH.
Sources also report the newborn is in critical condition.
IMDC has not responded to Sun’s calls for comment on the incident.

Addu City Mayor Ali Nizar and Addu City Council staff have sent condolence messages to Nazahath’s family following her passing. In Nizar’s message, he described her death as a huge loss, citing that she was a courteous employee.
There have been prior cases of medical negligence in Maldives, including ones involving pregnant women and babies. However, it is unclear whether any action has been taken against parties found negligent in such cases.
