Lootuvaifi Rally: MDP presents five demands to government

The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) held its "Lootuvaifi" rally this Friday evening in Male', presenting a series of demands to President Dr. Mohammed Muizzu's government.
The party accused the current administration of constitutional violations, economic destruction, and obstruction of freedom of expression.
Kendhoo MP Mauroof Zakir, announcing the demands, stated that citizens gathered for the rally out of dissatisfaction with the government. "I didn't come to joke, I didn't come to laugh, I came out of anger, because I am not happy," he asserted.
Mauroof elaborated on the reasons for public discontent, citing the President's alleged undermining of the constitution and members of parliament, the destruction of the nation's economy and financial system, and the restriction of council powers and freedom of expression. He further criticized the government for what he termed the "robbing" of basic constitutional rights.
"So the people are here to say no to this government because they are dissatisfied and angry," Mauroof declared, adding that the people had gathered to initiate a change in government, emphasizing that the police and army's role is to protect the populace.

Withdraw the constitutional amendment regarding MPs losing seats due to party changes.
Initiate state payments to private companies within five weeks.
Withdraw amendments to the Decentralization Act that restrict council powers.
Repeal the Media Act.
Guarantee availability and fair access to Aasandha and medications.
Mauroof concluded by stating the MDP's readiness to work towards changing the current government.
Hundreds of individuals attended the rally, filling the entire Artificial Beach area. The MDP stated that the event aimed to amplify public voices against various corruption allegations leveled against the government.
