Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is the only party in Maldives that can establish a tax system, says party leader Mohamed Nasheed.
The former President said this in his speech at MDP’s campaign launching ceremony for the parliamentary election on Friday night.
At the event, Nasheed said that only MDP can provide social protection and increase the income of citizens.
MDP’s government had introduced the current tax system back in 2010.
Nasheed, who is vying for the Central Mahchangolhi seat, also vowed to amend the regulations to make the parliament more honest and said that the MPs of the 19th parliament will represent the people and help President Solih fulfill the MDP manifesto.
In his speech, Nasheed expressed confidence that MDP will receive the majority in the next parliament, since, he said, it is what the people want.
He said that MDP’s manifesto was drafted after hearing the concerns of citizens during their door-to-door campaigns and that MDP as a whole is the most experienced and active political party in Maldives.
