All parties in Pres Waheed's coalition will leave, says Nasheed

Speaking after opening a new campaign camp in Male, the former president stressed that the political future of MDP was extremely bright but that the future looks bleak for the “orchestrators of the coup.” Nasheed said Adhaalath had “quit” the coalition because a traitor can never succeed. “As far as I can see, the rest of the people behind him will leave. I think Dr Mohamed Waheed won’t even contest the election,” he said. Nasheed was referring to Adhaalath’s decision on Friday to consider exiting the coalition citing its lack of campaign activities. Nasheed said the resignation of former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom’s brother-in-law Ilyas Ibrahim from Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) showed that the majority of people who had supported PPM are now with MDP. It is further testament to the fact that MDP will win the upcoming presidential election in the first round, he added.
