Two people have been arrested following the unrest in Noonu Miladhoo yesterday, during which a group of people protested against the arrival of Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) Presidential Candidate, former President Mohamed Nasheed in the island for his presidential election campaign.
Police said that the two people are aged 21 and 27.
The police said that a group of people gathered near the harbour and tried to obstruct Nasheed when he arrived; however, the police managed to push the crowd back and allow Nasheed to get on the island safely.
The police said that Nasheed walked to the MDP jagaha (station) with the assistance of the police, where he attended a ceremony, and that he was provided protection until he departed the island.
The Island Council said that protesters threw sand at Nasheed as he arrived in the island at around 17:00 yesterday.
