Case against four suspects in terror attack sent for prosecution

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has filed a case at the Prosecutor General's Office against the four suspects in the May 6 terrorist attack.
In a tweet, Prosecutor General (PG) Hussain Shameem said the PGO has received the investigation report on the four suspects involved in the attack that severely injured Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed. The four suspects arrested in connection to the attack are Ahmed Adhuham Rasheed, Mujaaz Ahmed, Thahumeen Ahmed, and Ahmed Fathih. The PGO has 15 days to decide on the prosecution, said Shameem adding he will join a joint press conference with the MPS on July 24.
Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed also confirmed that MPS has submitted investigative and evidential documents and materials for prosecuting the first set of suspects. Hameed added the investigation will continue with great focus and continued support from international partners.
Furthermore, the Criminal Court of the Maldives has remanded Ahmed Adhuham Rasheed, Mujaaz Ahmed, and Thahumeen Ahmed for the remainder of their trial.
Speaker Nasheed was severely injured after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was triggered near his residence in Male' City, while he was entering his car on the night of May 6. The speaker underwent several life-saving surgeries for his injuries and later travelled to Germany for advanced treatment.
MPS arrested five suspects who are directly involved in the attack, including the individual who allegedly triggered the IED, and the owner of the motorcycle to which the device was attached.
