Sheikh Ali Zaid has stated that in the 2004 tsunami, while buildings and entire islands were decimated, copies of Quran in Kandholhudhoo, an island severely damaged by the Tsunami, had survived it.
Speaking in the sermon held in the Traders Mosque after Asr prayers Sheikh Ali Zaid said waves reached several feet in one home in the island, but a cupboard holding copies of Quran and the copies had not sustained any damages.
He noted that in all parts of the island, waves reached to 8 or 9 feet. However, water level was at 2 or 3 feet near mosques and that all citizens were relocated to the mosques for safety.
“These stories were shared to me when I recently visited Dhuvaafaru, where citizens of Kandholhudhoo told me,”
He said that this served as a reminder to all the greatness of Islam and Quran, adding that these will only be apparent to those who had reflected on this. He said that not being a Muslim was one of the biggest weaknesses a human will face, adding that material gains played no part when it came to the spirit.
Sheikh said that those who adopt other religions do so due to lack of information and knowledge.
“Some find idol worshipping fascinating. But the idols themselves are incapable of defending themselves even if a person spits on them, they are not even aware that someone had spit on them,”
