On Saturday evening, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih concluded the official visit to the Republic of Rwanda to attend the first Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) held since the Maldives’ re-accession to the Commonwealth of Nations on February 1, 2020. President Solih was accompanied by First Lady Fazna Ahmed and a high-level delegation on this visit.
The 26th CHOGM, held in Kigali, Rwanda under the theme "Delivering a Common Future: Connecting, Innovating, Transforming,” brought delegates from 54 nations seeking to strengthen multilateral cooperation, explore new opportunities, and address mutual challenges facing future generations. The meetings took place from June 20–25, 2022.
As part of the visit, the President attended the official opening of CHOGM, which was followed by high-level forums of the delegates to discuss collaboration on an array of topics ranging from trade, health and climate.
On the side-lines of the 26th CHOGM, the President also held meetings with the Prime Minister of Mauritius and the External Affairs Minister of India in an effort to strengthen bilateral relations with these countries, as well as advancing shared interests and contributing to the resolution of global issues.
President Solih’s attendance at CHOGM further cements his administration’s continued commitment to cooperate with the international community on shared goals such as democracy, peace, and prosperity.
