60-year-old woman’s license held in fatal Hulhumale’ Highway crash

Authorities have suspended the license of a middle-aged woman in connection to an accident on the Hulhumale’ Highway on Saturday that killed a Bangladeshi man.
The police initially reported that the accident took place at around 08:19 am on Saturday when the man crashed his motorcycle on a traffic cone placed to cordon off part of the Hulhumale’-Male’ lane for work on the solar panels.
The police said the man, identified only as a Bangladeshi male, was taken to the Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Male’ City. He was pronounced dead less than an hour later at around 09:05 am.
Videos taken in the aftermath showed a large pool of blood at the crash site.
Footage of the accident – caught on a CCTV camera at the highway – emerged on social media on Monday night – showing that the Bangladeshi man got run over by a motorcycle a split-second after he fell to the ground after crashing into the traffic cone on the side of the lane.
The motorcyclist does not appear to stop after crashing into him.
The chief police spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Shifan told Sun on Tuesday morning that the police have questioned a 60-year-old Maldivian woman in connection to the accident.
“And her license has been suspended and her motorcycle towed,” added Shifan.
The accident is under further investigation by the police.
