Local authorities have arrested 10 expatriates for allegedly attempting to smuggle seven kilograms of drugs into the Maldives via vessel.
All 10 suspects have been ordered remand on Friday, March 21st.
Authorities clarified the case involved a group of Indian and Indonesian smugglers, out of whom five were ordered a remand of five days by the Criminal Court with the remaining five receiving just a single remand day.
Details of the suspects have been disclosed by authorities, and they are;
Ganesh Bommali, India, 22: remand of 5 days
Peter Vini, India, 28: remand of 5 days
Prabhakaran Nagarajan, India, 35: remand of 5 days
Andrians Ya, Indonesia, 25: remand of 5 days
Mohammed Ikbal Makmuru, Indonesia, 30: remand of 5 days
Dattkile Darshan Vijay, India, 22: remand of one day
Saran Padman, India, 26: remand of one day
Nashvan Adil, Indonesia, 30: remand of one day
Romans Sathiya Fernando, India, 58: remand of one day
Gowsik Raj James Nox, India, 30: remand of one day
All ten are charged with drug trafficking, and though the prosecution had submitted sufficient amount of admissible evidence. Additionally, statements from the officers on scene confirmed discovering seven kilograms of drugs from the vessel.
Maldives Police Service also revealed the identities of all 10 suspects in the case later on Saturday evening.
Police however, had not provided any further information about the individuals or the case beyond this.
