State run Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has put its entire workforce of doctors on duty, temporarily cancelling all vacations amidst the epidemic of swine flu in the Maldives.
IGMH’s Director of Medical Services Dr Ali Nazeem said in a memo that all doctors are to resume duty Wednesday onwards until the end of this month. The memo added that doctors will receive one day off per week until further notice, explaining that this decision was in connection with the current spread of the H1N1 virus.
All the schools and universities have also been closed due to the swine flu, while flu clinics have been established in IGMH to provide easy consultations and tests for patients exhibiting flu symptoms.
The Maldives is currently on alert level 3 for swine flu.
