Gulhifalhu International Port Consultancy Work Begins

Ministry of Economic Development has announced the consultancy work for the Gulhifalhu International Port development project has commenced.
Earlier the government contracted the consultancy work to establish an international commercial port in Gulhifalhu to a Joint Venture (JV) between Holland’s Niras Company and Denmark’s Maritime Transport Business Solutions (MTBS) for USD 1.6 million. In addition to that, Water Solution, Clear Reign Maldives, and Beach Rock Venture will be taking part in the project as sub-consultants. According to the Economic Ministry, the consultancy work has begun after the completion of mobilization.
The contractor will undertake the relevant research, carrying out feasibility studies, accumulate applicable documents and develop the master plan and the architectural drawings required for the project.
According to the recently published government Strategic Action Plan (SAP), the Gulhifalhu Port will be completed and operational by 2022. Under the plan’s Blue Economy category, two light industrial, manufacturing zones are also set to be established in two locations of the country by 2023.
