President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom has announced plans to develop tourist resorts in Haa Dhaalu atoll.
The President made this remark on Tuesday evening at the meeting held with the people of Kulhudhuffushi.
The President announced plans to develop tourist resorts in Haa Dhaalu hipparufushi, Vaikarumuraadhoo, Kanamana, Kudafaru and Keylakunu.
Addressing the people, President Yameen described Kulhuduffushi as the developmental hub of the North. Speaking further, the President reiterated the Government commitment to work towards the development of Kulhudhuffushi, and highlighted proposed developmental projects for the island.
Underscoring his Government’s key agenda for economic transformation, the President emphasized the need to adopt new strategies for developing the tourism sector, while also fostering the further progress of atolls and the Maldivian people. In this regard, President Yameen emphasized the government plans to establish Special Economic Zones in different strategic locations across the country.
Meeting the people of the island, President Yameen stated that as Kulhudhuffushi represented the developmental hub of the North, the development of an airport on the island was both necessary and important.
In his speech, the President also underlined the Government’s efforts to create an environment conducive to youth empowerment. Within this context, President Yameen noted that as a result of his administration’s tourism development plans, economic opportunities for youth would be further enhanced.
