Tourism Minister Ahmed Adheeb has said that while the former President Mohamed Nasheed claims the good name of introducing guesthouse business to Maldives he is also the one who initiated the campaign to boycott Maldivian tourism industry.
Adheeb made this remark speaking at the ceremony held at Machangolhi to celebrate the anniversary of the government.
Minister Adheeb said that during Nasheed’s presidency he only gave 20 licenses to operate guesthouses.
He said that Nasheed started the campaign for tourists to boycott Maldives following his resignation.
He said that many of those who operate guesthouses has raised their concerns because of these campaigns of Nasheed.
Adheeb said that the current government has given 30 licenses so far within only an year’s time.
