Deputy President of the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Ali Waheed has said that the FBI agent who came to Maldives to assist the Police in investigating the murder case of Dr. Afrasheem Ali was sent back without even notifying the FBI.
Ali Waheed made this speaking at the protest held at Boduthakurufanu magu near the Hulhumale’ ferry terminal.
“So when the FBI is brought Maldivians thought they are the best of the best. When he was sent the time of his departure was also not known. He was sent without even notifying the FBI. FBI agents don’t come here no more after that. Not even for vacation. That is how they investigated,” he said.
Ali Waheed said that the investigation of the murder of Dr. Afrasheem was a riddle. “We saw the arrest of some youth and putting the blame on them to divert the investigation’s direction,” he said.
“The FBI investigating agent will surely know who were stopped at the airport. The police will know very well that many deaths came as a result of Dr. Afrasheem’s death,” he said.
Ali Waheed alleged that the family of Dr. Afrasheem is also very upset and concerned regarding how the investigation was conducted by the Police.
