Maldives Customs Services have said that in 2014، 15kg of Narcotic substances have been confiscated under operations executed by Customs Officers.
15kg of ‘dry’ narcotic substances were confiscated in the past months in 2014، said Commissioner General of Customs Ahmed Zuhoor during a Press Conference held on Thursday. And such a large amount of illicit drugs were confiscated by the hard work of the officers of Customs Service، Zuhoor said.
The main concern in Maldives is the increasing number of youth becoming drug addicts and being involved in narcotic businesses. In the ventures to minimize the victims of narcotics and it’s related businesses، a large amount of narcotic substances have been seized until today.
Compared to the last year’s period، the narcotics cases reported to Police has lowered 35% in 2014، an estimated report released by the Police stated.
In addition، during the press conference، Ahmed Zuhoor said to improve Custom Services provided to the people، online services have been introduced for many key services of the Customs.
