Millions spent on associations during Waheed’s regime; case unravels

According to reports، a case involving former President of Maldives Mohamed Waheed Hassan – in his tenure – had spent more than MVR 1 million without the consent of Attorney General، on associations that are not registered under the national congress of sports in Maldives.
Audit report released by Youth Ministry in 2012 reveals، a total of MVR 1،092،329 was released to associations and individual entities that are not registered under the Maldivian national congress of sports، against the consent of the then Attorney General.
In addition to this، a total of 37 projectors were distributed through the budget of Youth Ministry – without proper transparency involved in the process – for the 2012 EURO Cup viewing.
The report had also stressed that a total of MVR 900،000 was spent on 2012 – which does not fall within the concluded budget of the year، while the transaction is in violation of the cash accounting regulations.
Apart from this MVR 300،000 expected as receivables to Youth Ministry has not been entered into logs، with no indication of the transaction details.
The Youth Ministry released audit report had recommended to take necessary actions against all discrepancies and their associated individuals.
