This year, the constitution will be respected and the rule of law will be upheld: Nasheed

The constitution will be respected and the rule of law will be upheld in the new year, says former President Mohamed Nasheed.
Extending felicitations on the commemoration of the New Year 2019, the leader of ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) stated that this year, the citizens can expect the constitution to be respected and for the rule of law to be upheld.
The people can look forward to a free and fair election this year, and can also expect living standards to improve.
Stating that the Maldives will once again become a respected nation, the ex-President wrote that human rights abuses will also be brought to book with the commencement of the new year.
I wish everyone a Happy New Year. Maldivians can look forward to a year in which: the Constitution is respected; rule of law upheld; elections are free and fair; corruption and human rights abuses brought to book; living standards improve; and Maldives is respected once more.
Earlier, the former President described 2018 as a year that rewrote the history of Maldives with citizens coming out to oust former President Abdulla Yameen in the elections.
Nasheed has announced his decision to contest for the central Mahchangoalhi seat in the Parliamentary Election to be held in April.
