Maldives and Saudi Arabia Sign MoU to Strengthen Judicial Cooperation

The Supreme Court of the Maldives and the Ministry of Justice of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation and enhance collaboration between the two institutions.
The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the International Judicial Conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Chief Justice Abdul Ghanee Mohamed signed on behalf of the Supreme Court of the Maldives, while Dr Walid Al Samani, the Minister of Justice of Saudi Arabia represented his country.
The five-year agreement is the first signed by the Maldivian judiciary with a judicial authority of an Arab Islamic country.
Under the agreement, the two countries will strengthen legal and administrative mechanisms within the judicial systems, and work to develop and enhance the professional competence and skills of judges and judicial personnel.
The MoU provides for the exchange of policies, systems, information, experience and international best practices, along with visits and sharing of skills between judicial and technical experts from both countries.
The MoU also facilitates scientific and technical conferences, seminars, discussions, training programmes and workshops within the judicial sector.
