Atoll Championship 2025/2026 Kicks Off with Kulhudhuffushi–Nellaidhoo Showdown

The Atoll Championship 2025/2026, a brand-new tournament launched by the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), is set to open with a highly anticipated match between Kulhudhuffushi City and Nellaidhoo (HD). The opening fixture will be hosted in Kulhudhuffushi City, marking the start of Zone 1 matches for the northern region.
FAM first opened registration for the Atoll Championship on August 17, 2024, giving local clubs across the country a chance to take part. While the initial deadline was September 1, it was later extended to September 11 following requests from several interested teams. By the close of registration, 47 teams had signed up to compete.
The official draw ceremony, held yesterday, determined the matchups for the tournament, which officially begins on November 1.
Regional Division of the Tournament
To ensure fair representation from across the nation, FAM divided the tournament into three main regions, each with two zones:
North Region Zone 1: Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu, and Shaviyani
North Region Zone 2: Noonu, Raa, Baa, and Lhaviyani
Central Region Zone 1: Kaafu, Alifu Alifu, and Alifu Dhaalu
Central Region Zone 2: Vaavu, Meemu, Faafu, and Dhaalu
South Region Zone 1: Thaa, Laamu, and Gaafu Alifu
South Region Zone 2: Gaafu Dhaalu, Fuvahmulah, and Addu
FAM stated that the full list of participating teams, along with group details and fixtures, will be announced soon. Tournament updates and schedules will also be published on FAM’s official social media channels.
This championship marks a significant milestone in FAM’s ongoing effort to expand football opportunities in the atolls, nurturing local talent and strengthening the foundation of Maldivian football at the grassroots level.
